Welcome to Books, Books, and More Books.  I am pleased to share this book with you.  Thank you for visiting and please come again.

Mindy,
Thank you for letting me post a short excerpt from my novel Nowhere, AZ on your site on January 29th.  The following is a chapter from the middle of the book, which gives away a little regarding the psyche of the character without really giving any of the details of the story away.

Excerpt:
I drove all day and all night and ended up in Cheyenne, Wyoming.  I was lucky I didn’t get stopped by any cops because the radio kept announcing my name and what kind of car I had stolen.
I stayed under the radar and didn’t exceed the speed limit.
The radio kept repeating what had happened in the courtroom.
News at eleven.
I had been deemed a mass murderer who’d somehow gotten away with it.
The radio kept saying that eight people died as I escaped.
The radio kept saying that I’d killed them all.
That I was some kind of monster.
I couldn’t believe I had made it as far as I had on that tank of gas.  It’s a good thing I stole an economical car.
I found a small patch of trees just off the highway and parked behind them.  I popped the trunk with the little lever by the seat, climbed out and walked to the back of the car.
I was surprised to see a small canister of gasoline strapped to the side with a bungee cord.  I riffled around a little longer until I found a flare.
I got back into the car and drove to a small clearing.
Making sure there were no trees nearby as not to start a giant fire, I dumped the gasoline all over the interior of the car and lit the flare.
I killed the car.
I walked back to the highway and followed the sign that read: GAS STATION 2 MILES.
I’m pretty sure I looked a little out of place in my piss-stained three-piece suit, but I didn’t see any cars during my walk.
The sun started to rise behind my back when I got to the gas station, so I knew I was heading west.  The convenience store was closed, but that didn’t deter me.  I lifted my foot and kicked in one of the windows.
Once I got inside, I grabbed some junk food and scarfed it down.
It had been a long time since I’d had any junk food.
After my snack, I looked around and saw a rack of shirts and some jeans folded on a nearby shelf.  I shed myself of the suit and changed into local clothes.
On a hat rack, I saw my hat.  It fit well.
Next to the hat rack, I saw my bag.  I stuffed my suit into it and slung it over my shoulder.
I looked in the mirror and decided I looked okay to walk into town.
I busted open the register, but it had been cleared out for the night and I had no idea how to break into a safe, so I was penniless.
I stole some beef jerky, some sodas and water, and some more junk food.  I stuffed it all into the bag, then walked out into the morning light.
I could see no town.  I could see no city.
I decided to keep walking until I found my first nowhere.
That was twelve years ago.
I’ve been heading west ever since.
